
Men's Soccer Suffers First Loss of the Season, 1-0, to No. 24 South Florida

Ft. Myers, Fla. - Drexel's run of five straight matches without a loss to start the season came to an end at the hands of No. 24 South Florida (4-1-1) as the Bulls edged the Dragons (4-1-1), 1-0, at the FGCU Embassy Suites Kick-Off Classic. In a heated contest that saw six cards distributed to the teams, including three reds, South Florida scored early in the first half and held on for the win.
Bernardo Anor gave South Florida a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute of a set up from Ben Sweat and Hasani Sinclair. The Bulls, who knocked off No. 8 Ohio State on the opening day of the Classic, held Drexel without a shot on goal for the duration of the contest and the only shot South Florida was able to put on net was it's goal.
As the result would indicate, the match was a close contest. South Florida outshot Drexel 7-4 and both teams earned two corner kicks.
The officials handed out five cards to the Dragons, including two red card bookings to Nate Baker and Manny Cazares late in the second half. The Bulls' Kevin Olali was also dismissed from the match via red card in the 78th minute.
Drexel continues a four-match road swing and opens conference play next Saturday, Sept. 25 when the team travels to play William & Mary.
