Philadelphia – The Drexel women's lacrosse team dominated play in a 14-2 win against Saint Joseph's. The Dragons outshot the Hawks 22-10 and had nine players score at least one goal at Finnesey Field. Drexel's strong defense held Saint Joseph's scoreless in the first half.
The Dragons put pressure on the Hawks early as sophomore Alyse Maiden scored in the opening minutes of the game. Senior goalkeeper Whitney Johnson made a big stop for the Dragons, which led to an Amanda Norcini break downfield that gave Drexel another goal.
Junior Charlotte Wood and Katie Blazer kept the rally going and scored on free position opportunities putting Drexel up 4-0. As time winded down in the first half, Alyse Maiden fired a shot past the Hawks' goalkeeper after receiving a feed from Katie Blazer.
Saint Joseph's Jen Peters posted two unassisted goals for the Hawks only points. Wood's free position stopped Saint Joseph's momentum and started a four-goal rally for the Dragons.
Maiden and Wood each had three goals for the Dragons, while teammates Kelli Joran, Jaclyn Klunder, Amanda Gregg and Lindsey Kovar also scored goals.
Drexel's Amanda Santandrea registered two saves in her first collegiate start. The Dragons return to action on Saturday, Feb. 26 against city-rival Penn.
