Sixth-Inning Rally Lifts Dragons to 3-2 Win in Series Opener at UNCW

Wilmington, N.C. – Drexel used a three-run sixth inning to come from behind for a 3-2 victory over UNC Wilmington. Rachel Campbell went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Hillary Allen made Drexel's one-run lead hold up with a solid pitching performance. The win snapped Drexel's five-game CAA losing streak.
Allen allowed one earned run on eight hits and two walks in the complete-game effort. In the follow up to her career-high 10-strikeout game at La Salle on Tuesday, the junior hurler fanned five Seahawks.
The Seahawks took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Allison Lanouette that scored Caitlin Cavarra. An error by Amanda Bachmann at second base allowed another run to cross the plate in the third inning, giving the home team a 2-0 lead.
Drexel's sixth inning rally began with Laura Stagliano reaching after being hit by a pitch. She promptly stole second which allowed Campbell to drive her in with a single to right field.
Paige Collings was hit by a pitch and Kelly Downes drew a walk to load the bases with one out. After Jenn Reading struck out, Caprice DeMirjian reached on a fielder's choice, driving in the tying run.
Hanna Parrish knocked in the go-ahead run with a single pulled to right field that brought pinch runner Jess O'Hara in from third base. Devon Metcalf was thrown out trying to advance to third base to end the inning with Drexel on top by a run.
Allen pitched out of a jam in the bottom of the sixth inning with runners on first and second and one out. She induced a fielder's choice ground out and a fly out to center field to escape the inning with the Dragons still on top.
Amanda Aditays threw a solid game for the Seahawks despite being victimized for three runs in the sixth inning. She scattered five hits and two walks and struck out nine Dragons. Samme Lisowsky relieved her to pitch a scoreless seventh inning.
