Philadelphia - The Drexel men's lacrosse team returns to Vidas Field on Tuesday afternoon when it faces Saint Joseph's at 3 p.m. The game was moved up due to weather concerns. The Dragons will be looking for their first win of the year, while the Hawks enter the game with a 2-2 record.
The Dragons scored two early goals at No. 10 Maryland on Saturday, but that was all they could muster until the final minute as the Terrapins held the Dragons off the board for a span of more than 50 minutes. Maryland went on to win the game, 12-3. The Terps outshot Drexel, 44-26, and came up with 12 saves. Joe Rainoldi, Mitch de Snoo and Jake Gonzalez were Drexel's goal scorers. The Dragons' top three point producers on the season were held to just two assists in the game.
Ryan Belka still leads the team in scoring with 11 points and with six assists. Cole Shafer has seven goals despite being held without a goal on Saturday. Robert Frazee contiubtes seven points. Will Gabrielsen made eight stops in the cage for Drexel on Saturday. He has started all four games. Nick Saputo, who won 30 of his 44 face-offs in his last two games, has a .604 winning percentage this season. He also averaged 11 ground balls per game.
The Hawks evened their record at 2-2 after defeating VMI on February 25, 11-3. Saint Joseph's has also beaten High Point this year. Their losses have come to Richmond and to Penn. In the Penn game, the Hawks raced out to a seven-goal lead early, but the Quakers rallied for the win in overtime.
Mike Rastivo leads the Hawks with nine goals and 13 points. He is tied with Ryan McGee with four assists. McGee, who had five points in the win against VMI, has nine points. Chris Blewitt is second on the team with six goals. The Hawks win 60 percent of their face-offs, which should make for an interesting subplot in the game as Mike Lanham will go up against Saputo.
