Philadelphia - The Drexel men's lacrosse team will fly to Detroit on Friday and will battle the University of Michigan on Saturday afternoon at Michigan Stadium. It will be the first meeting between the two teams and it will be Michigan's first game in The Big House this season.
The Wolverines begin play with a 4-3 record. Michigan was in Philadelphia last weekend and escaped from City Line with a 9-8 quadruple-overtime win against Saint Joseph's. Peter Kraus scored the game-winning goal on Hawk Hill. The Wolverines are 3-2 at home this season with their only losses to nationally-ranked teams (Notre Dame and Brown). Ian King leads the team with 12 goals, 10 assists and 22 points. He missed last week's game with a lower body injury. Mikie Schlosser has 13 goals and 17 points, while Kyle Jackson has scored 11 times. Michigan scores more than 11 goals per game and their offensive coordinator is former Drexel assistant Conor Ford.
The Dragons are coming off a disappointing 10-9 loss to St. John's. The Dragons led by four goals on three occasions, but were held scoreless in the fourth quarter. Jules Raucci led the Dragons' offense with two goals and three assists. Cole Shafer scored three times, whle Ryan Belka picked up a pair of goals and two assists. Drexel outshot the Red Storm, 42-39, but seven turnovers in the fourth contributed to the loss. Drexel is now 2-5 this season.
Belka is off to a good start this year. He has 14 goals, 12 assists and 26 points. Belka scored four of his goals on the man-up. Shafer now has 14 goals after a hat trick against the Red Storm. He has 48 career goals in a year and a half. Raucci is now up to seven goals and 12 assists on the season. Nick Saputo still leads the CAA and is among the national leaders with 65 ground balls. He has won 59 percent of his face-offs.
