PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel softball team dropped two games to Towson in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The Dragons fell by an 8-2 margin in game one and then were defeated as the Tigers came from behind to win 14-4 in the second game of the day.
Baeley Reed went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run score in the first game of the day. She led off the game with a home run to left field, the first of her career, and then her second hit of the day marked the 100th of her career. Paula Ueno also went 4-for-4 from the plate in the first outing of the day.
Towson jumped out to an early lead in game one as they posted four runs in the top of the first. Reed got one back for the Dragons with her lead-off home run in the bottom of the inning to make it a 4-1 game. The Tigers responded, though, with three more runs in the second to go ahead, 7-1.
In the bottom of the third, Kai Uyesaka hit a sacrifice fly that brought Reed in from third and cut the Tigers' advantage to 7-2. Towson would add another run off a solo homer in the top of the fifth and then would go on to hold off the Dragons to earn an 8-2 win.
In game two it was the Dragons who jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after a strong second inning. Erin Okoniewski led off with a single to left center and then Kimberly Chan followed with a single up the middle. Taylor M. Lee came up next and singled up the middle as well to load the bases. With no outs, Sharon Zamora sent another single up the middle for the Dragons that scored Okoniewski from third. Then Jenelle Ladrido singled to bring Lee across the plate and then two batters later Ueno sent a single into left field that knocked in two more runs.
The Tigers got back in the game in the top of the third as Shelby Stratcher hit a three-run home run to left field. The Dragons would be able to hold Towson off through five innings as they maintained their 4-3 advantage, but in the top of the sixth the Tigers broke things wide open with a seven-run inning.
Ahead 10-4, the Tigers would add four more runs in the top of the seventh and in the end Towson walked away with a 14-4 victory.
With the losses, the Dragons move to 16-21 overall and 0-8 in conference action. The Tigers improve to 26-10, 4-4 CAA.
The Dragons return to action on Wednesday when they will visit University City neighbor Penn for a single game at 4 p.m.
