WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Drexel women's lacrosse team jumped all over American on Saturday afternoon and did not look back as the Dragons defeated the Eagles on the road, 14-3. Drexel (2-1) scored the game's first three goals before going on a 7-0 run that spanned nearly 25 minutes of game action to seal the victory.
Nadia Pelham-Lacey scored four times, adding an assist for a game-high five points in the win. It was her second consecutive game with five points, and left her atop the team's early leaderboard with nine goals and 12 points on the young season. Maggie Stetson, Caroline Thiele, Lisa Rogers and Lauren Gerrie each netted a pair of goals against the Eagles, with Stetson adding an assist for three points in the win. Devin Nihill also put together a three-point afternoon with a goal and two helpers. Alexandra Peffer notched her first collegiate goal, and Caroline Friberg and Jamie Schneidereith contributed assists, with Friberg's marking her first collegiate point.
Carlee Ries made seven saves on 10 shots faced, helping the Dragons hold their opponent in the single digits for the third straight game to open the 2017 season. Rogers and Caroline Cummings each caused two turnovers as American gave the ball away 15 times. Drexel also outdid the Eagles 9-4 in draw controls.
Lisa Rogers got the scoring started just 46 seconds into the game with her fourth of the season. Nadia Pelham-Lacey and Maggie Stetson each added tallies before American got on the board with 16:35 remaining in the opening half.
Just under two minutes later, Stetson opened what would be a 7-0 Drexel scoring run. The Dragons got goals from five different players during the span, and held the Eagles without a goal until just 21:54 remained in the contest. Caroline Thiele scored twice during the run, as did Pelham-Lacey.
After American ended its drought, Lauren Gerrie scored twice in the span of 34 seconds to make it a 12-2 game. With the score 12-3, Alexandra Peffer took a pass from Caroline Friberg and scored with 1:29 remaining, the first career points for both Dragons. Peffer became the ninth Dragon to score a goal through three games this season, and Friberg the 11th to record a point.
Drexel, which is allowing just 6.7 goals per game through its first three contests of 2017, will now head into New Jersey to take on Monmouth next. The Hawks have scored at least 10 goals in all four of their games, and average 13.3 a game. That matchup will take place next Wednesday, Mar. 1, with the opening draw set for 3:00 p.m.
