Annapolis, Md. - The Drexel golf team, coming off its third win of the 2017-18 season, will look to continue its winning ways this weekend at the Navy Spring Invitational. The tournament will take place at the Naval Academy Golf Course.
The Dragons will play 18 holes on both Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting. The starting time each day will be at 8:30. The early look at teams in the field include Canisius, George Washington, Lehigh, Manhattan, Navy Gold, St. Bonaventure, St. Francis (Pa.), Saint Francis (N.Y.), Saint Joseph's, Shepherd and Towson.
Drexel will be sending Brendan Bacskai, Alex Butler, Aaron Fricke, Adam Mistretta and Connor Schmidt to Annapolis. That is the same group that was victorious at the Wildcat Invitational on Monday and Tuesday. The Dragons had previously picked up wins last fall at the Quechee Club Collegiate Challenge and at the City 6 Championships.
According to its website, the Naval Academy Golf Course was realized in 1938, when the U. S. Navy purchased the surrounding land on Greenbury Point in order to expand its radio communications facility. The Navy restored nine of the original 18 holes and opened for play. Two year later, William Flynn was contracted to design and develop a course composed around the existing nine holes. The redesigned course opened in 1944.
