PHILADELPHIA – Linda Rush, Elena Woulfe and Megan Trivelpiece all had perfect appearances at the plate as the Drexel softball team dropped two games against Towson on Friday afternoon at the Drexel Softball Field. The Dragons fell 9-2 in game one before dropping the nightcap, 11-9.
After a scoreless first inning, the Tigers got on the board in game one with a two-run homer to take the lead in the second.
The Tigers then broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning to jump out to a 7-0 lead. The rally started with a two-run single followed by a three-run homer out of center field.
In the fourth inning, the Dragons used a Linda Rush homer and a Towson fielding error to cut the deficit down to five, but the Tigers responded with two more runs in the top of the seventh to assure the final victory.
Rush led the offense going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a home run, a double and a RBI while Jenelle Ladrido went 2-for-3 with a double. Devon Grippe suffered the loss as she allowed 10 hits and seven runs in 3.1 innings of work.
In game two, Towson maintained control early by scoring five runs in the first three innings, but the Dragons did not let up as they clawed back and began to take over in the bottom of the third.
In the third, Kristi DiMeo got things started as she drew a walk with the bases loaded to push Taylor Kent across the plate. With the bases still packed, Woulfe sliced a two-run single through left field to plate Rush and Hannah Walker.
Down 6-3, the Dragon's used a four-run fourth inning to come from behind and take a one run lead. After Rush reached on an error to advance Trivelpiece, DiMeo belted a three-run homer out of center field to give the Dragons the advantage.
The Tigers got four back in the following inning, giving them a 10-7 advantage. The Dragons, however, were able to make it a one run game heading into the seventh inning with an RBI single from Kent and a squeeze bunt from Woulfe. The final blow would then come in the seventh when Towson added an insurance run to secure the sweep.
Woulfe went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI. Trivelpiece was also perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with one run scored while DiMeo went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI. Katie Haley suffered the loss for the Dragons as she allowed 12 hits and 10 runs in 5.0 innings of work.
The Dragons will return to action on Saturday, April 7 at 12 p.m. as they round out the series with Towson at the Drexel Softball Field.
