MADEIRA BEACH, FLA. – Linda Rush and Kristi DiMeo tallied their first home runs of the season, however, it was not enough as the Drexel softball team fell to Akron on Friday morning in Madeira Beach, Fla., 8-4.
After Akron jumped out to a three-run lead early in the first inning, Drexel responded in the third to cut the deficit down to one with a two-run homer from DiMeo for her 17th of her career. Akron, however, answered in the following frame with a RBI double to right center off the bat of Laura Lakins and a Drexel error sent Madison Carter home for the 5-2 lead.
Looking for revenge, Rush stepped up to the plate in the fifth and hit a two-run homer to send Sarah Clinton over the plate in her college debut, making the score 5-4. The Drexel defense could not contain the Zips, though, as a Kimberly Rodriguez single and a Sydney Jascoe double gave them a four run lead and ultimately the win.
Meghan Conroy suffered the loss in the circle after giving up five runs and five hits for her first loss of the season. DiMeo and Rush both went 1-for-4 at the place with a homerun while Reilly Jo Swanson and Elena Woulfe batted 2-for-3.
Drexel will regroup and continue action in the Maderiea Beach Spring Invitational against Holy Cross.
