Softball Falls to Holy Cross in First Day at Madeira Beach Spring Invitational

MADEIRA BEACH, FLA. – Drexel softball closed out its opening day at the Madeira Beach Spring Invitational with a 6-0 loss to Holy Cross on Friday afternoon in Madeira Beach, Fla.
After a scoreless three innings, the Crusaders finally got on the board in the fourth with an Erin Bengston double and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Hannah Horton to take the 2-0 lead. Neither team could score until Holy Cross used a four-run seventh inning to secure the 6-0 victory. The runs came from a Sydney Burr home run to right center followed by a two-run single to the same spot from Jessie Nagel.
Devon Gripped suffered her first loss of the season after allowing six hits and two runs in 4.1 innings of work.
Drexel will return to action in the Madeira Beach Spring Invitational tomorrow, Feb. 16 when it takes on South Dakota at 4:30 p.m. and Belmont at 7 p.m.
