Rush Breaks Career Home Run Record in 11-8 Loss to South Dakota

MADEIRA BEACH, FLA. - Junior Linda Rush hit her 30th home run to break the Drexel softball career home run record in a 11-8 loss against South Dakota on Saturday evening in the second day of the Madeira Beach Spring Invitational. Rush's 30 home runs beat Paige Collings previous record of 28 from 2009-12.
South Dakota got on the board first with two runs in the first and second innings, however, the Dragons were able to cut the early defecit in half in the third when Rush hit her first home run of the day to send Taylor Kent over the plate.
The two teams continued to trade runs until the sixth inning when Rush and Kristi DiMeo each smacked one out of the park to give the Dragons a 8-7 lead. Rush stepped up first, hitting a three-run homer one out of left field to bring in Megan Trivelpiece and Hannah Walker while DiMeo hit one out of right center.
After a scoreless seventh inning, the Jackrabbits answered with two home runs of their own off the bats of Lauren Wobken and Jamie Holscher to secure the final 11-8 victory.
Haley Hulitt suffered the loss as she allowed four runs and three hits in 3.0 innings of action. DiMeo and Rush each batted 3-for-5 while Rush added five RBI and DiMeo added one. Reilly Jo Swanson and Elena Woulfe each added an RBI.
Drexel will continue action in the Madeira Beach Spring Invitational tonight against Belmont.
