O’Reilly’s First-Career Goal Carries Women’s Soccer Past Seton Hall, 1-0

PHILADELPHIA – The first goal of Annalena O'Reilly's collegiate career carried Drexel women's soccer past visiting Seton Hall in a 1-0 win on Thursday night. The result extended the Dragon's home unbeaten streak to four matches.
Drexel's win came on a night when the Dragons (4-2-2) tilted the field in their favor and dominated the box score, out-shooting the Pirates (1-4-1) by a 16-4 margin. More significantly, DU did not yield a shot on goal in its second shutout in three matches.
A strong opening 10 minutes by Seton Hall put the Dragons on their heels. The Pirates earned three corner kicks in the opening 16-plus minutes, and a set piece opportunity led to a shot that caromed off the crossbar. Following SHU's early blitz, Drexel settled in and took control of the match.
The Dragons showed a clinical touch on one of their four corner kicks of the opening half. O'Reilly, who only entered the match three minutes prior, was the benefactor of the set piece with her finish at the far right post in the 31st minute with an assist from Melissa Lyon.
With a goal in hand, Drexel's defense suffocated the Pirates in the second half, where SHU managed just one shot attempt.
Drexel came tantalizingly close to doubling its advantage in the 61st minute, when Morayo Adenegan headed a whipping cross just over the bar.
Libby Baeza (3-1-1) kept her second clean sheet of the season and the ninth of her career and further shrunk her conference-leading goals against average to 0.41. The CAA Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year has allowed just two goals in 441 minutes and 53 seconds of action this season.
The Dragons travel back to New York for their final tune-up before jumping head-first into the nine-game CAA slate. Drexel clashes with Columbia on Sunday at 2 p.m. in a match that is scheduled to air on ESPN+.
