Women’s Lacrosse Drops Close Affair to No. 19 Georgetown

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel University women's lacrosse team (1-2) narrowly dropped its Saturday afternoon nonconference matchup to the No. 19 Georgetown Hoyas (2-1) from Vidas Field by a final of 12-10.
HIGHLIGHTS
* Junior Karson Harris finished with a game-high five goals as she eclipsed 100 career points with her first tally of the day. The junior also won a game-high nine draw controls.
* Junior Colleen Grady recorded a game-high four assists on the day.
* Redshirt junior Lucy Schneidereith collected three goals, three groundballs and caused two turnovers. She now has 10 goals over the past two games.
* Freshman Corinne Bednarik scored her second collegiate goal this afternoon.
* Sophomore Claire Jarema put away her third goal of the young season.
* Senior Rachel Warden caused a game-high three Georgetown turnovers and picked up a game-high three groundballs.
* Redshirt senior Marah Hayes also caused two turnovers and scooped up one groundball.
* Freshman Belle McHugh recorded two groundballs and one caused turnover.
* Junior goalie Zoe Bennett (L, 1-2) made 13 stops in the loss, just two shy of her career high.
* Georgetown was led by Michaela Bruno and Natalia Lynch, who each scored four times. The Hoyas got three of their remaining four goals from non-starters.
* Both of Drexel's losses in 2020 have come by two-goal margins against top-25 opponents: No. 24 Johns Hopkins (L, 13-11) and No. 19 Georgetown (L, 12-10).
GAMEPLAY
First Half /
Drexel fell behind 3-0 in the opening two minutes before a timeout helped the Dragons refocus and score two goals before the midway point of the first half. The Hoyas scored three of the final four goals of the opening period to own a 7-4 advantage as the teams went to the locker room.
Second Half /
Harris complete her hat trick 40 seconds into the second half which started a four-goal run for DU. Bednarik scored followed by Harris' fourth and fifth goals to give Drexel its first lead with 24:13 to play, 8-7. Georgetown scored two goals in just over a minute span to regain the lead while Lucy Schneidereith tallied her second of the afternoon to even it back up at 9-9 with 15:52 remaining on the clock. The Hoyas used a three-goal run from 14:31 to 11:26 to regain control with a three-goal lead once again, 12-9. Lucy Schneidereith completed her hat trick with just over five minutes remaining, which came as the final score for the Dragons, 12-10.
BY THE NUMBERS
* Georgetown led shots, 32-22 while the Dragons scored on nearly 50% of their shots including 3-of-6 on free-position attempts.
* DU was a perfect 8-for-8 on clear attempts in the first half before the Hoyas put on the second-half pressure, causing the Dragons to finish 16-of-20 on the day.
* Georgetown won the draw control battle, 14-10, while Harris won nine of Drexel's 10.

Drexel plays in its second road game of the season Saturday, Feb. 29 at Villanova (1 p.m.) before returning to Vidas Field for a Monday, March 2 contest against Merrimack (4 p.m.).
