ORLANDO, Fla. – Drexel Softball lost both games on the final day of the UCF Invitational. The Dragons were defeated by LIU in the first game of the doubleheader, 1-0, and lost to Columbia in the second part, 7-4.
Game One
Brooklyn Daly (0-2) pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run on seven hits while only throwing 91 pitches.
Kristi DiMeo and Megan Trivelpiece had the two hits for the Dragons.
How It Happened
LIU (7-11) threatened to take the lead in the top of the first inning with a runner on third, but Daly worked out of the jam.
The Sharks took the lead in the second inning with a home run.
In the bottom of the sixth, Drexel (1-4) was able to get a runner in scoring position as Savaanah Garcia reached on a throwing error and advanced to second. The Dragons were not able to follow that play up with anything as the next two batters flew out.
Game Two
Lindsay Nelson started the game in the circle and went three innings while allowing two earned runs on three hits.
Linda Rush and Taylor Kent both went 3-for-4. Rush had one RBI and scored a run while Kent scored twice.
How It Happened
Drexel got out to a hot start in the first inning, Jessica Schable drove in a run with an RBI single through the left side.
The Dragons tacked onto the lead in the second inning with a double off of Trivelpiece's bat, scoring Rush and Kent.
Drexel had the lead going into the fourth inning, 3-0. Schable replaced Nelson in the circle after two runners reached base. A sacrifice fly to right field scored one. With the bases loaded, Columbia (4-5) scored another on a fielder's choice.
Columbia wasn't finished. Two singles and two RBIs gave the Lions the lead in the fourth with a score of 4-3.
In the sixth inning, Rush doubled to right center, bringing home Reilly Jo Swanson to tie the game at 4-4.
In the bottom of the sixth, Meghan Conroy (0-2) took over for Schable, who ended with a line of two innings pitched with two earned runs on two hits and one strikeout. Columbia walked in a run, taking the lead back for good. In addition to taking the lead, Columbia tacked on two more runs off a double to left-center.
Conroy took the loss, which is her second of the season.
