Fourth Quarter Goal Sends Drexel Past Elon, 14-13

ELON, N.C. – A fourth quarter free position goal by Hayleigh Simpson helped the Dragons to a one goal victory over Elon on Saturday afternoon. The Dragons improve to 9-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play heading into their final week of the regular season.
Drexel saw scores from nine different players, including double digit scoring from Corinne Bednarik, Colleen Grady, Karson Harris, Allison Drake and Grace Harding. The Dragons 11 goal performance in the first half powered them to victory, including a six-goal run between the second and third quarters.
Bednarik recorded the most well-rounded performance, netting two goals and providing three assists for her fourth straight game with five or more points. She also won a team high eight draw controls for the second consecutive game.
Bennett had another solid outing in net, recording 12 goals against the Phoenix for her ninth win of the year.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
First Quarter – Drexel 5, Elon 3
The Dragons went on a four-goal run to kick things off, with unassisted goals from Harris, Molly Weygand and Grady and two assisted efforts from Drake on feeds from Bednarik and Lucy Schneidereith. The Phoenix found three of their own late in the quarter to move them back within two.
Second Quarter – Drexel 11, Elon 5
The Phoenix scored first in the second quarter but the Dragons quickly caught fire. Drexel recorded a game-high six goals in the second with big performances from Lindsey Dean, Schneidereith, Grady, Harding and Bednarik.
Third Quarter – Drexel 13, Elon 10
Harris and Harding gave Drexel its largest lead of the day with a pair of goals in the opening minutes of the second half. Elon made things interesting in the next ten, recording five straight goals to close out the third.
Fourth Quarter – Drexel 14, Elon 13
The Phoenix added to their streak with three more goals in the fourth, tying the game at 13 with seven minutes remaining. Hayleigh Simpson did a nice job of forcing a foul in Elon's zone in the fourth minute, allowing her to secure the game-winning goal on a free-position attempt.

The Dragons are back on the road on Tuesday as they head to Dartmouth for a non-conference matchup at 3 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
