Dragons Split Doubleheader Against Towson

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel softball team split a doubleheader against Towson on Sunday afternoon at the Drexel Softball Field. Drexel (15-8, 4-2 CAA) defeated the Tigers (11-19, 1-5 CAA) in game one, 15-5, then fell in game two, 6-4.
GAME ONE
Meghan Conroy (4-1) started in the circle and went all five innings in game one. The senior allowed five runs on eight hits.
Savaanah Garcia went three-for-three with five RBIs and two runs in game one. The junior also hit her first two home runs of the season.
Sarah Clinton went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and scored two runs. In the fourth inning, Clinton came up to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a triple to left field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel scored all 15 runs before Towson could score themselves. In the first inning, Drexel scored twice. Kristi DiMeo singled up the middle, and Clinton scored on the play. Ameryn Humble then reached on a fielding error. DiMeo scored on the play.
In the second inning, Drexel scored one run on a sacrifice fly. Jackie Masone hit a ball to centerfield and scored Grace Abbonizio from third.
The Dragons tacked on three runs with two home runs. Ashley Errico led the inning off with a solo shot to left field. Garcia then hit her first home run of the game to center field. Humble scored on the play.
Drexel scored nine runs in the fourth and extended its lead to 15-0. Masone scored on a wild pitch, and Humble reached on a fielder's choice. Garcia hit a three-run home run to right center to push Drexel's lead to 11-0. Clinton pushed three more runs across the plate with her triple to left field and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
In the fifth, Towson scored five runs. However, Drexel had a 10 run lead at the end of the fifth inning, and the game ended due to the mercy rule.
GAME TWO
The second game went two full innings before being delayed due to inclement weather. The delay lasted an hour before the game could continue.
Lindsay Nelson (3-3) started in game two and went five innings. Nelson allowed three runs on five hits. The junior struck out six. Jessica Schable entered the game in relief and struck two batters out over two innings.
DiMeo went two-for-four with three RBIs and also scored a run.
Megan Trivelpiece went two-for-three with a run scored and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dragons jumped out to a quick start in game two. DiMeo hit a two-run home run to left field. Masone scored on the play.
Towson scored six unanswered runs starting in the third inning and going until the fifth.
Drexel scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Trivelpiece hit a solo home run to right center, and DiMeo hit a single to score Clinton.
WHAT'S NEXT
Drexel wraps up its home stand on Tuesday, April 5, against Marist. The Red Foxes come to Philadelphia to play a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
