Towson Hands Drexel its First Conference Loss In Overtime

TOWSON, Md. – Drexel and Towson battled to overtime play for the second-consecutive game following the two teams' CAA Semifinal matchup last spring with the Tigers coming up victorious this time, 16-15. Towson handed Drexel its first conference loss of the year as the Dragons move to 7-6 overall and 2-1 in CAA play.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
First Quarter – Drexel 2, Towson 4
The Tigers came out early, scoring three straight goals to start the game. After several strong efforts, Corinne Bednarik gave the Dragons their first score of the day on a solo attempt. Despite a fourth goal from TU, Lucy Schneidereith added one of her own on a roll-in with seven seconds remaining. Bednarik provided the assist, leading the Dragons through the first.
Second Quarter – Drexel 10, Towson 8
The Dragons offense fired off in the second, scoring five free-position goals in a seven-goal run. Harris sank four straight goals in the opening four minutes, securing her place in the Drexel record book as the Dragons all-time leading goal scorer. Colleen Grady added a pair of her own followed by Harris' fifth of the day and a second from Bednarik, helping DU battle back from a two-goal deficit to a 10-8 lead.
Third Quarter – Drexel 13, Towson 12
Towson found success first after the half, moving the Tigers back within one. Allison Drake reopened the lead with an unassisted goal, but TU quickly regained momentum, scoring two to tie the game at 11. The Tigers took their first lead since the start of the second with a third goal in the sixth minute. Drake and Bednarik gave Drexel the one-two punch they needed, tying the game for the second time in the quarter. The duo swapped roles in the next offensive attack, allowing the Dragons to hold onto a one goal lead.
Fourth Quarter – Drexel 15, Towson 15
Drake picked up Drexel's third hat-trick performance of the day with a dominant effort to open the fourth. Towson answered back with two goals to take a lead, but Schneidereith tied the game for the fifth time with her second goal of the day, sending the game to overtime play.
Overtime – Drexel 15, Towson 16
The Tigers came up with the draw in overtime, allowing them the opportunity to secure a victory on the opening drive.
