Drexel Comes From Behind to Defeat Delaware, 13-11

NEWARK, Del. – Alex Wall earned a hat trick and five other Dragons scored as they came back to defeat Delaware, 13-11 on Saturday afternoon. Drexel improved to 10-4 and earned its third victory in conference play with two CAA games remaining.

Alex Wall earned a hat trick, two ground balls and a caused turnover in the contest.

Maddie Fowler(2), Corinne Bednarik (2), Grace Harding(2), Hayleigh Simpson(2), Kate Marano, and Molly Weygand contributed on offense.

The draw battle ended in a tie at 14 each. Camryn Ryan picked up seven draws and Maura Cissel earned five.

Belle McHugh and Ryan each caused two turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blue Hens struck first with a pair of scores in the opening quarter. Alex Wall answered back on her 12th goal of the year. Maddie Fowler and Kate Marano added tallies in the quarter. UD entered the second frame with a 6-3 advantage.

Fowler wasted no time as she found the back of the net in the second minute of the quarter. After two saves by Cuocco, Harding was successful to cut Delaware's lead to one with under nine minutes in the half. The game entered a lightning delay with 5:51 left in the period.

Following a four-hour delay, Wall scored two goals and Simpson added a tally that tied the contest at eight headed into halftime.

The third frame was a defensive battle as only UD scored and the game entered the final quarter with the Blue Hens holding a one-goal lead.

Delaware and Drexel each scored two goals and the score stood at 11-10 UD halfway through the final period. Weygand found the equalizer on a free-position with under seven minutes to go.

The Dragons held the Blue Hens scoreless in the fourth quarter. Bednarik found Harding for the game-winner with under five minutes left to give Drexel the lead. Simpson added an insurance goal in the 58th minute to secure the win.
