Bednarik Scores Five Goals as the Dragons defeat Hofstra, 18-6

PHILADELPHIA– Corinne Bednarik scored five goals in an offensive outburst as the Dragons defeated Hofstra, 18-6 on Saturday afternoon from New York. A ten goal opening quarter powered Drexel to victory. DU improved to 11-4 overall and achieved its fourth conference win.
Drexel earned 18 goals from nine different players on the day. Lindsey Dean and Bednarik paved the way for DU as they each recorded seven points. Alex Wall and Maddie Fowler found the back of the net twice in the first quarter.
BY THE NUMBERS

Jenika Cuocco recorded 12 saves and picked up four groundballs.

Drexel went 18-18 on clears and the defense caused four turnovers.

Maura Cissel led DU as she found six draw controls in the circle.

Bednarik added a pair of assists, one groundball, and five draws.

Avery Jaffe earned her first career goal on a free-position.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER – Drexel 10, Binghamton 1
Dean scored her first of three goals in the quarter on a free position in the third minute of the contest. After a Pride goal, DU answered back with nine consecutive scores by Wall, Molly Weygand, Dean, Marano, Bednarik, and Fowler to close out the quarter. The defense held Hofstra to one goal on nine shots and six saves in the quarter.
SECOND QUARTER – Drexel 10, Hofstra 4
HU found three tallies in the first seven minutes of the period to cut Drexel's lead to six headed into the half. Following the goals, the pride were shut out the rest of the time as Cuocco picked up three saves.
THIRD QUARTER – Drexel 16, Hofstra 4
Dean scored her second free position and fourth tally of the day in the first minute of the second half. The offense continued to overpower Hofstra as they scored six goals in the quarter. Simpson and Godshall found their 30th and 8th goals of the season. The Pride was scoreless in the period and earned only two shots.
FOURTH QUARTER – Drexel 18, Hofstra 6
Maddie Fowler earned her seventh goal of the year on a pass from Marano. The Hofstra offense scored two goals in the final six minutes. Jaffe scored in the 58th minute on a free-position goal.

The Dragons host senior day and their final home contest at Vidas Field on Saturday, April 29. Senior day ceremonies will take place following the game. The opening draw against Monmouth is scheduled for 1 p.m.
