Five Goals From Allison Drake Lifts Drexel Past Campbell, 13-5

PHILADELPHIA - Drexel women's lacrosse took down Campbell, 13-5 in the inaugural matchup Friday night at VIdas Field. Allison Drake had a stand out performance for the Dragons, collecting a career-high five goals and snatching two ground balls. Corinne Bednarik and Maddie Fowler also picked up a pair of hat tricks.
With the win, Drexel improves to 6-3 and 2-0 in CAA play while Campbell falls to 3-6 and 0-2 in the CAA.
BY THE NUMBERS
The Dragons got on the board first thanks to Drake early in the first quarter off the pass from Bednarik. Bednarik followed up with a goal of her own to add to the lead.
After Campbell came back with a goal at the 3:29 mark, Bednarik scored two goals in the last minute of the frame to lift DU to a 4-1 lead after one quarter. The Glenmoore, Pa. native secured her seventh hat trick of the season, with all of her goals coming in the first 15 minutes of play.
Drexel kept the pressure on in the second quarter. After a goal from Campbell at the 10:29 mark, the Dragons responded with three straight goals. Drake added two and Fowler another as DU took the 7-2 lead into halftime.
The third saw a strong defensive battle, as Fowler scored the lone goal of the quarter to extend the lead 8-2.
The Camels opened the fourth once again by scoring first. Under a minute later, Kate Quinn picked up the ground ball off the Drexel miss and fired the shot through the back of the net to make it 9-3 Drexel. After two yellow cards from DU, the Camels took advantage of the two player down situation to score off the free-position attempt to cut into the lead 9-4.
The teams traded a pair of goals before the Dragons finished the game with three straight goals to take home the victory, 13-5.
UP NEXT
Drexel heads back on the road to take on VCU on Wednesday, March 27 at 1 p.m. The Dragons return home Saturday, April 6 to battle Monmouth on Senior Day. Opening draw is scheduled for 12 p.m. with senior day festivities postgame.
