Allison Drake Tops Career-High Six Goals as Drexel Rains Over VCU, 15-6

PHILADELPHIA - Allison Drake scored a career-high six goals as Drexel conquered VCU Wednesday afternoon in the rain, 15-6. Drake topped her previous high of five goals in the Dragons last contest against Campbell. DU improves to 7-3 on the year as VCU drops to 3-8.
Corinne Bednarik collected five tallies herself, finishing with eight points and nine draw controls. The fifth year entered the game seventh in the nation in points this season. This is Bednarik's third straight game with a hat trick, and her eighth overall.
BY THE NUMBERS
Drake helped the Dragons start off hot with her first goal of the game off the assist from Bednarik. Weygand quickly followed up with her eighth goal of the season to go up 2-0.
VCU's Mason Whitmore was able to get the Rams on the board at the 8:54 mark in the first. Both teams traded goals back and forth, with Ellie Wall and Bednarik each snatching tallies to end the frame tied at four.
The Dragons did not allow VCU to score in the second quarter as DU recorded seven straight goals. Bednarik was first to score, followed by Maddie Fowler who shot just in front of the crease to hit the back of the net off the pass from Buckley. Buckley tied a career-high in assists with three.
Bednarik added another just a minute later. The Glenmoore, Pa. native rounded the net and cut towards the cage to make it 7-4 Drexel. Drake scored three more and Fowler another to take the Dragons into halftime up 11-4.
VCU opened the third quarter with a goal from Kiley Kozak, its first in almost 20 minutes of play. Bednarik scored her fourth goal of the contest, spinning around the Ram defender to hit the top of the cage. The Dragons tallied one more in the quarter thanks to Drake, with an assist from Kate Marano. With just 20 seconds left, DU took the ball coast-to-coast to score with just 3 seconds remaining.
Drake and Bednarik each added another goal in the fourth. VCU was able to add one more as Drexel was victorious 15-6.
