PHILADELPHIA – A goal by Patrick Short was the difference-maker for the Drexel men's soccer team on Saturday at Vidas Field against Northeastern. The Dragons defeated the Huskies, 1-0.
Both teams played a similar game. While Drexel out-shot Northeastern in the first half, 5-2, the Huskies topped the Dragons, 9-6 in the second 45 minutes. The only heavily lopsided statistic was the corner kicks. Northeastern held the advantage, 9-3. Eight of those corner kicks came in the second half.
Raphael Bartell earned his second straight start and saved five shots. The Huskies struggled to find the target until the second half.
The Dragons earned a free kick in the 38th minute of the game just outside the penalty box. Short was able to navigate the wall of Northeastern Players and tuck a shot into the upper left corner of the goal. The goal is Short's first of the season.
In the final 15 minutes of play, Northeastern was trying its hardest to tally a goal but Drexel's defense stopped every attack.
Drexel returns to action on Tuesday, September 17 against FDU. Action from Teaneck, N.J. is slated for 7 p.m.
