Dragons Defeat Monmouth for Ninth Straight Win, 15-5

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Drexel women's lacrosse team (10-2, 5-0) picked up their ninth straight win of the season as they defeated Monmouth Thursday afternoon, 15-5. This marks a new program best for consecutive wins in a single season. Three different Dragons collected a hat trick in the win in West Long Branch, New Jersey.
DU scored the only two goals of the first quarter. Ellie Wall earned the first points of the night over 10 minutes into the contest. The sophomore came past the eight meter mark down the left wing and bounced in the shot on the far side of the cage. Bridget Finley scored off the free position attempt for her first of the day. The Dragons had opportunities early with the Hawks down two women, but the Monmouth defense held strong by holding Drexel without a shot.
Finley collected her second straight goal to open the second quarter. The redshirt senior sprinted down the middle of the field and fired a bounce shot in through the top of the net. Kate Quinn followed up as the Dragons quickly scored off the draw control. The Hawks ended the scoring drought as Sophia Lymberis got on the board. Drexel finished the half scoring four straight. Four different Dragons tallied, including three scores in the final minute from Bea Buckley, Finley and Wall.
The Dragons stayed hot as they scored another pair. Allison Drake tallied for the second time as Wall recorded the first hat trick of her career. Caroline Brennan helped Monmnouth close the gap as she went for back-to-back goals. Finely and Mary Claire Heubeck added a goal each as Drexel went to the fourth quarter with a 12-3 lead. This was Hueubeck's third career tally.
Buckley found Quinn at the 13:10 mark of the fourth quarter to extend the lead to ten. Buckley now has 25 assists on the season, entering Thursday's game with the third most in the conference. Brennan scored another pair of goals before the Dragons closed the game out with two of their own. Katherine Senich found an open lane and hit the back of the net for the first goal of her career.
Jenika Cuocco had eight saves and four ground balls for Drexel, finishing with a .615 save percentage. DU return to Vidas Field to battle Hofstra on Sunday.
