PHILADELPHIA - The No. 22/23 Drexel women's lacrosse team looks to get back on track against Philly 5 rival Temple on Wednesday. Opening draw is set for 3 p.m. from Vidas Field.
About the Dragons
Drexel's ten game winning streak was snapped last weekend as the Dragons fell to Stony Brook, 17-13. With the win, the Seawolves captured the regular season title and will host the CAA Championships on Long Island.
Since the turn of the century, Drexel was just one of three CAA teams to have a double-digit winning streak in the regular season. This was the longest single-season record in program history for a single-season, and one shy of the all-time mark over multiple seasons. DU has clinched a spot in the CAA Championships, and will secure the second seed with a win over Elon.
Bea Buckley scored a hat trick and added three assists in the match up with Stony Brook. Buckley is the team's leading scorer, tallying 22 goals and 30 assists for 52 points. The sophomore has recorded three or more assists in five games this season. She is averaging 2.14 assists per game, which is third best in the conference.
Allison Drake collected her 40th goal of the season on Friday. She now has back-to-back seasons with 40 or more goals. The graduate student is sixth in the nation in shot percentage at .635. Drake has also been a threat from eight-meters, with a NCAA tenth best 1.08 free position goals per game.
About the Owls
Temple is 3-11 this season, with a 1-4 record in conference. The Owls have faced off against tough competition, including trips to undefeated No. 1 North Carolina. Amelia Wright recorded a hat trick against Old Dominion on Saturday, keeping the Owl's hopes for an AAC Tournament berth still alive.
The Series
Temple holds a 2-3 advantage over the Dragons in the all-time series. Drexel pulled off a double overtime victory against the Owls, 10-9, in their last contest during the 2023 season.
