Women’s Lacrosse Takes Down Elon in Regular Season Final, 16-7

PHILADELPHIA - Kate Marano tied a career-best with six points as the Drexel women's lacrosse team wrapped up the regular season with a win over Elon, 16-7. Bridget Finley and Bea Buckley each added five points, as Allison Drake collected four goals on a rainy Saturday in Philadelphia.
The Dragons (13-3, 7-1) clinched the two seed in the CAA Championships with the win and will face Delaware in the Semi-Final game on Thursday, May 1. This is Drexel's fifth straight appearance in the conference tournament.
Drexel celebrated senior day, as Grace Bleckley, Jenika Cuocco, Karli Dougherty, Allison Drake, Bridget Finley, Anna Maria Gragnani, Carrie Johnston, Annie Leo, Alexia Louca, Kate Marano, and Camryn Ryan were honored after the game.
Drexel's offense was rolling early as three different Dragons scored in the first eight minutes of the game. Buckley found Caroline Senich, who bounced it just over the keeper's head for the first score of the day. A minute later Finley put away the free position goal to extend the lead to two. Marano added another at the 6:46 mark. The Dallas, Texas native came from behind the net, faked the shot and fired through the net for her first of the day. Both teams traded goals in the final minute, with Drake scoring just before the buzzer to end the first.
Finley scored to begin the second before Elon went on a four goal run to end the half. Ana Lee Vandiver tallied twice as the Phoenix scored all of fourt goals in the final six minutes to ties things up at five.
Anna Maria Gragnani got back in the score sheet in the third quarter. Buckley dished the pass over the Elon defender to find Gragnani just in front of the crease. Ana Lee Vandiver scored another to make things even at six apiece. The Dragons then added seven straight to take a commanding 13-6 lead. Marano and Drake recorded a pair as Finley, Buckley, and Senich contributed to the scoring streak.
Vandiver picked up her fourth of the day to break the run. Drexel finished with three more as the Dragons took the win on senior day. Jenika Cuocco finished with ten saves, as Katie Maloney picked up five ground balls and five caused turnovers.
