Philadelphia - After spending the last two weekends on the road, the Drexel men's lacrosse team returns to Vidas Field for two games this week, starting on Tuesday afternoon. The two-game home stand begins when Binghamton comes to West Philadelphia for a 4:30 p.m. face off in the Dragons final non-conference game of the season.
Drexel is coming off a 9-7 win at Michigan over the weekend. The Dragons and Wolverines were tied at 7-7 before senior Ryan Belka scored with just 4:09 to go in the game, giving Drexel a one-goal lead. Drexel was able to come up with a big defensive play when Jake Gennosa picked off a pass and raced into the Wolverines' end. Drexel was able to kill the rest of the clock and Belka scored an insurance goal in the final seconds as the Dragons improved to 3-5 on the season. Belka and Cole Shafer each had hat tricks in the game, while sophomore Jimmy Joe Granito had a career-best 11 saves in the cage.
Belka has showed why he is among the best midfielders in the nation with his performance so far this season. In eight games, the senior has 17 goals, 12 assists and 29 points. Shafer is tied with Belka with 17 goals. Those two have been the majority of the offense this season. Jules Raucci has chipped in with eight goals, while junior Mason Pynn and sophomore Robert Frazee each have scored six times.
Binghamton had its two game winning streak snapped with a one-goal loss to Towson on Saturday. Sean Gilroy had three goals while Zachery Scaduto and Emmett O'Hara each scored twice. The Bearcats average more than 10 goals per game. Paul O'Donnell leads the team with 11 goals, while Gilroy adds 10. Tucker Nelson has 15 assists and 23 points, both tops on the club. Binghamton's two wins this year have come against UMBC and Delaware.
