DURHAM, N.H. - The Drexel women's lacrosse team dropped its fourth straight on the road on Sunday, 10-6 at New Hampshire. The Wildcats jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and never looked back as the Dragons did not have enough offense in the second half to overcome a 6-1 halftime deficit.
Lacey Aghazarian scored twice for Drexel (1-5), her first multi-goal game of the season. She has now scored in five of the Dragons' six games and matched Devin Nihill for the team lead with six goals. The Dragons also got goals from Nadia Pelham-Lacey, Milan White, Alissa Watts and Joelle Hartke. Alex Beilman added an assist, her first collegiate point. Madeline DiBrino had two caused turnovers and a game-high four draw controls to go along with three ground balls.
The Dragons, who came into Sunday with just two first-half goals to their credit in four road games, got off to a slow start again as the Wildcats scored the game's first four goals and led at halftime, 6-1. Drexel's lone goal in the opening stanza came from Aghazarian, a free position shot at the 15:27 mark that cut New Hampshire's lead down to three. It would be as close as Drexel would come the rest of the way.
New Hampshire responded to Aghazarian's goal with one of its own 47 seconds later. They would add another before going into the half up 6-1. Laura McHoul, who scored twice in the first half, led all scorers with four goals on the afternoon.
The Wildcats kept up the pressure to start the second half, scoring twice more and keeping Drexel off the scoreboard until more than 10 minutes had passed. This time, it was Pelham-Lacey taking a dish from Beilman and finding the back of the net to whittle the Dragons' deficit to 8-2. It took just 24 seconds for Aghazarian to strike again, getting the Dragons within five at 8-3 thanks to her second goal of the day.
After New Hampshire had made it a 10-3 game, the Dragons scored three times in the final 8:45 to close the final gap, but it was not enough to get them back in the contest. White and Watts each converted free position attempts. As a team, the Dragons were an impressive 3-for-5 on free positions on Sunday. Hartke closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal, her third of the year.
Drexel will have one more game on its five-game road swing before returning home. The Dragons will head south this time, to UMBC where they will take on the Retrievers on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. They will then return home on Saturday to take on Villanova at noon.
