Men's Soccer Nets Senior Day Win Over Lafayette, 2-1

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's soccer team closed its home schedule with a win on Tuesday night, defeating the Lafayette Leopards, 2-1. The Dragons took an early lead and, after Lafayette tied things up early in the second half, responded less than a minute later with the eventual game-winner.
Chris Donovan had a hand in both goals, assisting on the first and scoring the second. Yassine Elkahloun netted the other goal, his second of the season, while Laolu Daranijo contributed an assist. Stephen Kopsachilis made a pair of saves in goal. As a team, Drexel did an excellent job keeping the ball out of Lafayette's possession in the second half after regaining the lead, sometimes holding the ball for minutes at a time without the Leopards able to take it back for even a touch.
The Dragons took the lead in the 20th minute on a nice combination by Donovan and Elkahloun. Donovan gained control near the end line to the left of Lafayette goalkeeper Jack Cisneros. He sent a cross to Elkahloun cutting towards the goal. With a better angle, Elkahloun sent a ball to the far post, actually caroming off the post and in to make it a 1-0 game.
That lead held up until the 54th minute when a long throw in by Will Echevarria was flicked in off a header by Hale Lombard, who redirected the throw in just enough to nudge it past Kopsachcilis. Less than a minute later, Daranijo took the ball away from a Lafayette defender deep in the Leopards' zone. The defense for Lafayette was heading back the other way before the misplay, and Daranijo capitalized by sending it across to Donovan for a point blank goal, his seventh of the year.
The Dragons will wrap up the regular season on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. at Delaware, a new game time for the contest that had been scheduled for Sunday. The game will determine Drexel's postseason fate, with a win ensuring the Dragons' first CAA Championships berth since 2013 and a draw likely to do the same.
