Drexel Drops a 9-6 Heartbreaker to Towson in CAA Semifinals

TOWSON, Md. - Maddie Fowler led the Dragons with three points but the Drexel Women's lacrosse team fell 9-6 against the No. 2 Seed, Towson, on Thursday afternoon in the CAA Semifinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
Drexel started off strong as Simpson found her 33rd goal of the season in the second minute. Soon after, Fowler sent a pass to Marano in front of the goal which extended Drexel's lead to 2-0. Towson answered back with a pair of consecutive scores. The rest of the frame was a defensive battle.
Second Quarter
Towson scored on two opportunities in the time period. Cuocco earned four consecutive saves which included an eight meter shot for the Tigers. TU held a 4-2 advantage into halftime.
Third Quarter
The Dragons were successful in the second minute of the half as Fowler scored her ninth goal of the season on an assist from Bednarik. Towson answered with two tallies which gave them a 6-3 advantage. With 11 seconds to go in the third quarter, Godshall found Fowler in front of the goal as she fired a shot past the Towson keeper to close the gap to two headed into the final fifteen minutes.
Fourth Quarter
TU jumped to a four-goal lead with seven minutes of play remaining. The Dragons were not going down without a fight as Bednarik scored on a pass from Cissel. With 21 seconds left, Simpson found Wall open in front of the net to score her 21st goal of the season.

With a record of 12-5, Drexel will await word on a potential at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The selection show is on ESPNU on Sunday, May 7 at 9pm/ET.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Maryland native, Maura Cissel found her first assist of the year to Bednarik in the fourth quarter.
- Corinne Bednarik, Hayleigh Simpson, Alex Wall, and Kate Marano all scored.
