PHILADELPHIA – A goal by Gavin Carmichael in the fourth minute of the game lifted the Drexel men's soccer team past the Temple Owls, 2-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Vidas Field.
The Dragons out-shot the Owls 12-3 in the first 45 minutes. Four of those shots were on target and two were sent past the Owl's keeper. In the fourth minute, Patrick Short served a ball into the box and found Cesar Banacloy. A quick tap on from Banacloy allowed Carmichael to score the first goal of his collegiate career. The assist is Short's fourth of the season and Banacloy's first.
The Dragons doubled their lead in the 25th minute of the first half after Giancarlo Vaccaro played the ball into the box to Dominick Bachstein, who broke past the Temple defense and beat the team's keeper to his right. The tally was Bachstein's third goal of the season and Vaccaro's first assist of the season.
Raphael Bartell (1-1) started between the pipes and earned the second clean sheet of his career. Bartell saved four shots, tying a career-high.
Drexel returns to action on September 14 against Northeastern at Vidas Field. Opening tap is slated for 1 p.m.
