ELON, N.C. – The Drexel men's soccer team was defeated by the Elon Phoenix, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon in North Carolina.

The Phoenix struck first after drawing a foul in the first minute of the game inside the box. The penalty kick beat Alessandro Capogna and gave Elon the lead. A minute later, the Phoenix pushed their lead to two.

In the 32^nd minute, Drexel found the back of the net and cut the deficit to one. A ball played into the box by Patrick Short was finished by Ethan Schaefer. The goal is the first of Schaefer's career.

Elon widened the gap once more in the 56^th minute of the game. A free kick setup outside the box bounced down off the crossbar and into the net.

Drexel opens a two-match homestretch on Tuesday, September 9. The Dragons host the Temple Owls at 6 p.m.
