Dragons Earn Gold and Silver on Final Day of 2022 CAA Championships

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. - The Drexel men's swimming and diving team finished its four-day meet at the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association Championships on Saturday night. Kacper Karnik was named the Co-Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet after he finished the championships with three total medals. The Dragons captured ten medals in total and placed fourth.
It is the first time since 2016 that the CAA honored a Drexel men's swimmer as a Most Outstanding Swimmer. Joel Berryman received the award for the Dragons.
Xabier Carneiro competed in the 1650 free to begin Saturday night's festivities. He placed fourth with a time of 15:49.83. His Drexel teammate, Will Soleo, placed sixth after swimming a time of 16:02.37.
Karnik came through with a gold medal in the 200 breast, after swimming a time of 1:54.69, a B cut time for the NCAA championships, and a new program record. Karnik broke his own record that he set in the preliminaries on Saturday morning. He will add the gold to the bronze he won in the 100 breast.
Paris Raptis earned a silver in the 200 fly. He recorded a final time of 1:45.26, a B cut time for the NCAA Championships, and a new program record. The silver medal was the Raptis' second medal of the four-day event.
UNCW won the team championship after scoring 886.5. Following the Seahawks was Delaware with 643, Towson with 639.5 and Drexel with 535. William & Mary rounds out the standings with 337.
